Frequently Asked Questions

Besides clamping the panels onto the consoles, or bolting down using our sturdy free mount brackets, the only other responsibility is the installation by competent electrician or engineer is a dedicated ring main circuit as an AC outlet which the inverter simply plugs into. As mentioned above, all the hassle and cost usually associated with domestic solar such as scaffolding, large bulky hot inverters taking up valuable loft space, etc. are removed. The only additional cost to this kit is the proper installation of a fused spur which can be mounted in any location at your convenience, or a dedicated consumer unit MCB.

Please familiarise yourself with the manufacturer guidelines before purchase/questions. Full user friendly instructions will be sent upon order processing.

As part of the UK approved Hoymiles installation manual and 2022 IET revisions, most homeowners already have several ring main socket circuits they rarely use besides the odd mobile phone charge, and can dedicate that to a plug in kit. The inverter has very sensitive built-in protection for short circuit and over-under voltage in any event. All that you require is the installation of a fused spur. This can be in an outbuilding or on the home itself. The inverter is then connected to it as it doubles up as an isolator. Wiring the inverter into the consumer unit MCB directly is obviously also an option if you know a qualified electrician.

This kit is suited for areas of your property that were not typically associated with solar generation, such as garage roofs, bottom of gardens, fence panels, anywhere that has good load and wind bearing strength. We recommend no more than 10metre distance between panels and inverter and/or inverter and AC outlet. Most properties are single phase with a limit of 4kw but if you have a 3 phase supply you can install upto 11.5kw solar peak capacity into the property.

We can also swap the Renusol console mounting solution for bespoke standard stainless roof truss-mounted rails and anchors FREE OF CHARGE if preferred, just leave a note in the order comments.

There is no need to notify your supplier prior to installation. The requirements were loosened in 2022 so that any system below 4kw per phase can be installed first with no need for planning permission. The Hoymiles range gained UK G98 approval for UK home generation in 2023.

After successful setup as per inverter manual, a green LED means you then notify the supplier with the serial number after installation and most suppliers do pay export tariff for it. These inverters (HMS-400, HMS-1000, HMS-1200, HMS-1600) also communicate with optional wifi antenna for remote app access on the Hoymiles cloud. Our HMS-800w package has wifi built in for instant Hoymiles app access.
